Tagreid was born in Cairo, Egypt, to an Egyptian mother and Sudanese father. She received her college education in England then Greece before she moved to New York City, where she attended Columbia University MFA program in creative writing. Her short stories appeared in Asymptote, Fringe Magazine, Kolliope, and she was the finalist list of Glimmer Train Short Story Awards. Her literary translations include a novel by the Egyptian Nobel Laureate Naguib Mahfouz.
