The Forest Princess

“Erika?”  Helmut Schneider’s voice echoed through the forest.  Autumn leaves fell with the yearly waning of the forest.

A bird answered with a warning song.

“Forest princess, your Wilhelm is dying.”

The yowl of a cat pierced the air.

“It’s your turn now, princess.  You have to decide.  Are you human or animal?”
